There is a smoky situation going on at Wake Forest.

Smoke quickly filled Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., during Thursday’s game between the Demon Deacons and NC State from a nearby food truck.

Fire was seen blazing inside the truck with a chef attempting to quell the flames with a fire extinguisher when the ESPN broadcast panned to the scene late in the first quarter.

The food truck belonged to Choc’s Barbeque & Southern Catering, a small barbecue food trailer business that serves the Carolinas.

“There’s actually a food truck behind the stadium,” announcer Matt Barrie said during the ESPN broadcast. “Right here you see the flames on it that’s causing the smoke and the fire.”

Despite the large amounts of smoke billowing into the stadium, there was no break in the game, with broadcasters saying that the situation was improving after a few minutes.

“It was thick down on the field and even worse up here,” Barrie said. “But it looks like the situation is somewhat getting under control.”

“This is a first,” fellow broadcaster Tom Luginbill added.

Wake Forest opened the game by returning the kickoff for a touchdown, with freshman returner Chris Barnes taking it home on a 98-yard run.

Shortly before the game, Demon Deacons head coach Jake Dickert had a strong message for his team, which is seeking a 3-0 start to the season.

“The best part, there’s no one satisfied in this building. Everyone that showed back up on Sunday morning and Sunday morning early was ready to get back to work,” Dickert said, via The Sporting News.

“We need to get better…and be a better football team…you can have every excuse in the world to kind of go out there and go through the motions. We need to bring fire.”
