The injury-riddled Fever, battling for a playoff spot, may have lost another key player to injury.

Popular forward Sophie Cunningham was taken to the locker room with a knee injury after a collision on Sunday during a 99-93 road win against the Sun.

Cunningham, a key part of the Fever, especially with Caitlin Clark out due to a groin injury, was standing under the basket playing defense when driving Sun guard Bria Hartley fell into her lower left leg after making a pass.

Cunningham, who could be seen yelling in pain, had to be helped to her feet and was later ruled out.

As soon as Hartley made contact with Cunningham’s lower right leg, the Fever standout immediately grabbed it and fell to the court.

Fever head coach Stephanie White didn’t have any update on Cunningham but said that her reaction after seeing the injury was “holy s–t.”

“Especially the way that she fell and how she was holding herself and how much pain she was in, at the time it’s like, ‘crap,’” she told reporters.

Cunningham had been assessed with a technical foul earlier in Sunday’s game during a tie-up with Leila Lacan.

Clark has been out for a month with a groin injury and the Fever are battling for their playoff lives, sitting in seventh place at 19-16 after winning the Commissioner’s Cup earlier this season.

Indiana will also be without Sydney Colson (torn ACL) and Aari McDonald (broken foot) for the rest of the season.

Cunningham has made headlines lately off the court by being critical of WNBA officials, particularly when it came to how they called a game for Wings rookie Paige Bueckers.

Cunningham’s sister, Lindsey, took to social media on Sunday to express her displeasure with the officials after the injury, which could leave the Fever without another integral player.
