England and Mexico square off in the Round of 16 Sunday, but the highly-anticipated match has already resulted in quite the theatrics.

According to several reports, England’s hotel in Mexico City is under heavy security with police, riot shields and road blocks in place amid concerns over local fans attempting to disturb the squad.

There was speculation surrounding England’s location whether it had been leaked, but there is no confirmation that was indeed the case. Regardless, Mexican fans have disturbed other opponents at their hotel prior to their World Cup match with the national team.

Ecuador was taken by surprise with raucous fans gathering outside their hotel the night before the Round of 32 match against Mexico. The clash at Estadio Azteca resulted in a 2-0 Mexico win.

Now, the squad will face England on home turf in front of 80,000 rowdy fans Sunday.

When will Mexico versus England start on Sunday?

FIFA considered moving kickoff up to 12 p.m. local time due to weather concerns, but after complaints from Mexico and England camps ultimately decided to keep the game’s original start time.

The Round of 16 match between Mexico and England will begin at 6 p.m. local time at Estadio Azteca.

The Mexican national team has yet to concede a goal in the 2026 World Cup, but has history on their side as the team has only lost twice at the stadium in the last 50 years. England, though the favorite to win, will have to battle Mexico as well as the high altitude in Mexico City.
