Emmanuel Macron has vowed to keep Netflix’s Emily in Paris in the French capital after the latest series saw Lily Collins’ character embark on a romantic adventure in Rome.

The latest instalment of the streaming giant’s hit rom-com ends with the American expat ditching the City of Light for the Italian capital.

But Mr Macron, 46, says he will fight to keep ‘Emily in Paris’ as he claimed it is ‘good for business’ and being in Rome ‘doesn’t make sense’.

The French president talked all things women while posing as the cover star of the latest issue of Variety magazine.

He said he was ‘super proud’ to see his wife Brigitte, 71, make a cameo appearance in the fourth series of Emily in Paris.

‘She was very happy to do it,’ he said.

‘It’s just a few minutes, but I think it was a very good moment for her.

‘I think it’s good for the image of France.’

In January, furious Parisians scrawled graffiti across the shutters of a café used in Emily in Paris as backlash grew against tourists overwhelming the city’s neighbourhoods.

Locals have dubbed the hoards of fans visiting the capital as ‘l’invasion des imbéciles’, which translates to ‘the invasion of the morons’.

Asked about the fifth series being set in Rome, Mr Macron said: ‘Emily in Paris is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country.

‘For my own business, it’s a very good initiative.

‘We will fight hard.

‘And we will ask them to remain in Paris.

Mr Macron went on to admit that he got emotional during Celine Dion powerful rendition of Edith Piaf’s Hymne A L’Amour at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

He also found Lady Gaga’s cover of Zizi Jeanmaire’s Mon Truc En Plumes ‘impressive and generous’.

Asked about Taylor Swift’s Paris shows during her Eras Tour this summer, Mr Macron commented: ‘She’s one of the few artists who are able to gather so many people.

‘Happily, the concerts in Paris went well.

‘For French people, for all generations and for the economy in the cities where she appeared, it was absolutely unique.

‘This is a phenomenon.’
