Dylan Garand is currently first in line to succeed Jonathan Quick as Rangers backup goalie next season after signing a two-year contract extension Sunday.
Breaking through to the NHL level for the first time this past season, Garand appeared in three games for the Blueshirts and played well enough to position himself behind No. 1 goalie Igor Shesterkin on the organizational depth chart.
The new contract comes with financial protection on both sides as Garand works to establish himself as an NHL netminder.
The first year of Garand’s deal is a two-way contract that pays the 24-year-old $850,000 at the NHL level and $400,000 in the AHL, according to a source. It becomes a one-way contract the following year for the league minimum of $900,000 under the 2027-28 salary cap.
