MILWAUKEE — Dylan Darling’s ascension has given cover to the other St. John’s guards.

The Idaho State transfer has become the No. 17 Johnnies closer, playing a critical role in the team’s current 11-game winning streak entering Wednesday’s meeting with Marquette. He’s a backup in name only, coming up big in recent wins over Xavier, Connecticut, Providence and Seton Hall.

The problem? The Red Storm really don’t know what they’re going to get from Oziyah Sellers, Ian Jackson and Joson Sanon.

The 6-foot-5 Jackson had seemed to be turning a corner, but he has struggled of late, failing to crack double digits in the past four games. The team’s best shooter, Sellers is 7-for-29 from distance in the last eight contests. It should be noted, he did score the game-tying basket to force overtime in the final seconds of regulation in a victory over Xavier. Then, there is Sanon, who was moved to the bench in favor of Dillon Mitchell at the start of this winning streak. He has scored in double figures just once in the last 13 games.
