Dodgers' World Series battle reinforces harsh Mets reality

The mighty Dodgers came down from the high of Monday night’s clock-bending, 18-inning World Series Game 3 triumph as the Blue Jays evened the series with a 6-2 win on Tuesday night, punctuated by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s home run against superstar foe Shohei Ohtani.

That counter-punch keeps the Dodgers two wins from back-to-back championships and ensures they’ll have to travel back to Toronto to secure another set of rings.

When Steve Cohen became the Mets’ majority owner, he pointed to the Dodgers as the blueprint he wanted his team to follow — a high-spending club that brings in the best talent in the league, is an annual World Series contender and becomes an attraction for fans and celebrities to flock to see every night.

After watching the Mets throughout the regular season, and subsequently seeing the Dodgers march through the postseason with an 11-3 record, the Mets don’t seem particularly close to turning that vision into reality.
