TORONTO –– After missing Tuesday’s game because of a family matter, Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas announced that his father, Miguel Rojas Sr., died earlier that afternoon.

“From (the bottom of) my heart,” Rojas wrote in Spanish on an Instagram post Wednesday morning, “I want to thank everyone who has communicated with me and with all of my family to show us your love and let us know how beloved my father was during his life.”

Rojas was a late scratch from the Dodgers’ lineup Tuesday, after learning of what he described as his father’s “sudden” passing.

Rojas shared the news in a post to Instagram: “What hurts me the most was that I couldn’t say bye,” he added.

While he was still with the team in Toronto as of Tuesday night, manager Dave Roberts said he could be leaving as soon as Wednesday morning to be with his family.

The Dodgers will play Wednesday’s game a man short, instead of calling up another player from the minor leagues for the final day of their week-long road trip. They will wait and see where Rojas’ status stands before beginning a homestand on Friday back in Los Angeles.

In Rojas’ Instagram post, he included several family photos of his father, while sharing some difficult emotions in the wake of the news.

“Hopefully God receives him in all of his glory and that he rests in peace,” Rojas wrote.

“What hurts me the most was that I couldn’t say bye,” he added.

Rojas, 37, is in the final season of his 13-year MLB career, and is coming off his heroics in the 2025 World Series when he hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7.

This season, he is batting .263 in six games, and was expected to see more playing time this week in the wake of Mookie Betts’ oblique strain.

For now, however, the Dodgers will have to rely on Hyeseong Kim and Alex Freeland as their primary middle infield options.

It’s unclear how long Rojas will be away from the team.
