For someone that “only smokes,” a little over two pounds of marijuana was found by police in Aden Holloway’s apartment on Monday morning.

The Crimson Tide basketball guard was arrested on a charge of first-degree possession, which is illegal in Alabama. He also was charged with failing to affix a tax stamp, another felony.

Drug agents performed a search of the residence in the 400 block of 30th Avenue East and found loose marijuana along with some in a vacuum sealed bag, a rolling tray and packaging material, per the deposition and charge sheet obtained by AL.com.

“Holloway stated that he wanted to remain silent, but then stated that he only smokes,” wrote an agent from the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force in court records.

The search warrant began at 8:45 a.m. on Monday and Holloway was booked at Tuscaloosa County jail at 9:48 a.m. then released at 10:45 a.m. on a $5,000 bond.

On Tuesday, Holloway — Alabama’s second-leading scorer — was removed from the men’s basketball roster just days before the Midwest Region No. 4 seed Alabama will play 13th-seeded Hofstra in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday.

Alabama is prepping to play without the 21-year-old as Holloway will remain off the team until the university’s Office of Student Conduct investigates the arrest.

“We’ve got standards in our program and we’ve got ways we’ve held our guys accountable and we try to keep things in-house, and some of the situations we can’t — and this is one of those,” coach Nate Oats said on the “Hey Coach” radio show on Monday evening. “Situation’s a little different… I found out this morning. We had to suspend him pending the investigation. We’re certainly disappointed in his behavior.

“We still love him, he’s still our guy, we’re helping him get the help that he needs and we’re going to continue to help him whatever way we can. As far as our team goes… we’re preparing to play without him this weekend.”

The 6-foot-1 junior is in his second season with Alabama after spending his freshman year at Auburn.

He is averaging 16.8 points per game and tallied 18 in Alabama’s 80-79 loss to Ole Miss in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament on Friday.
