It certainly was an unconventional blocking technique.

Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton smacked Eagles linebacker Jalyx Hunt in the head during a pass-blocking rep during Philadelphia’s 24-20 season-opening home win over Dallas on Thursday night.

Guyton stood up Hunt with his right hand, and just as quarterback Dak Prescott threw a pass to CeeDee Lamb behind him, he hit Hunt in the helmet with his left hand, knocking him to the ground.

It appeared Guyton had an open hand when he made contact with Hunt.

He was not penalized for the play, though it subsequently went viral.

It was part of a controversial first game of the season for the NFL.

Eagles star defensive lineman Jalen Carter was ejected just six seconds into the game for spitting on Prescott.

But video that later emerged showed Prescott spit in Carter’s direction first, though it was into the ground and did not hit Carter.

Prescott denied that he was trying to spit on Carter.

He was not ejected or penalized.

“I actually said words like, ‘Why the hell would I’ — excuse me, but probably even more colorful — ‘what would I need to spit on you for?’ He just spit on me in that moment,” Prescott said. “It was more of a surprise than anything.”

Guyton missed most of training camp and the preseason with a broken bone in his knee but showed well for himself Thursday night.

“I feel like this is a momentum builder for our whole entire team,” Guyton said after the game. “Even though we didn’t come out with a win, at the same time we did a lot of things good and we have things we can learn from and improve on.”
