One day after receiving a cortisone shot in his left shoulder, slumping shortstop Anthony Volpe was out of the lineup for a second straight game Thursday against the Tigers.
Volpe, who is batting .125 with 29 strikeouts in his past 21 games, received the cortisone shot on Wednesday, according to noti.group’s Joel Sherman.
He originally felt “a pop” in the shoulder in a May 3 game against the Rays, but the New Jersey product remained in the lineup all summer.
Trade deadline pickup Jose Caballero made his second straight start at shortstop Thursday night.
