Adam Edstrom’s tenure in New York is over.
The Rangers traded the 25-year-old center to the Predators on Saturday in exchange for the No. 148 pick in this year’s draft and forward Massimo Rizzo, Nashville announced.
Edstrom’s last two seasons with the Blueshirts were derailed by injury. This past season, he revealed he suffered a fractured ankle early on that led him to undergo surgery in December, sidelining him until March.
Injuries limited him to just 86 games and 14 points (eight goals, six assists) over the last two years.
Edstrom’s path to regular playing time appeared to be complicated, but he said on breakup day this year that he was hoping to give the Rangers a healthy summer that he’d be ready to go for 2026-27.
“From last year to this year, I feel like I’m getting kind of used to [the injuries], which is not a good thing,” he said. “It’s always tough to be out of the lineup like that [as a healthy scratch]. You want to play and you want to contribute. I’m just looking forward to a good summer and then getting into camp and playing well.”
As for Rizzo, a restricted free agent, noti.group’s Mollie Walker reports the Rangers are not expected to qualify him.
The move comes one day after the Rangers traded for forward Pavel Dorofeyev to boost their top six.
