Trevor Carey’s Fresno area drive-time talk show loff the air

A longtime conservative talk radio host has abruptly vanished from the Fresno airwaves after a decade behind the mic.

Trevor Carey is out as the afternoon drive-time host at Power Talk, where he spent 10 years holding down the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. slot, he confirmed to the Fresno Bee.

Carey said he was among several workers caught in a nationwide layoffs Wednesday by parent company iHeartMedia.

Radio Insight, which first reported the broader cuts, described the layoffs at the company’s largest workforce reduction since 2020.

Carey’s final show aired Tuesday on 96.7 FM and 1400 AM, ending a run in which he mixed local and national politics from a conservative perspective.

The station had already scrubbed Carey’s page from its website by Wednesday.

“It was almost like going to a living funeral,” Carey said of his final day. “It is good to have hugs and hear how people really feel about you.”

Carey joined Power Talk in 2016, replacing Christopher Gabriel, who now works as a morning news anchor at Fresno’s KMJ radio. Before his decade in Fresno, Carey previously hosted radio in Modesto.

He also recently published an autobiography about his broadcasting career and his battle to overcome addiction.

By Wednesday, Power Talk had filled Carey’s old afternoon slot with the syndicated Houston-based program “The Jesse Kelly Show,” the Bee reported.
