We can get myopic. We can see our team — and nothing else. And in Grievance America, we can find fault with the Yankees not making enough outside alterations after winning 94 games and the Mets making too many after one of their most disappointing seasons ever.

What could be missed is what is going on elsewhere.

Let’s drill down a bit on this in the NL East.

The Mets again are looking probably at having to outdo the Braves and Phillies. The Nationals are going to be among the majors’ worst teams. The Marlins were 56-50 from June 1 onward last year and it is not inconceivable that they challenge for a playoff spot this year. But they traded two starters (Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers) in the offseason and probably are more likely to deal another (Sandy Alcántara, anyone?) then seriously contend in 2027.
