After falling short to UConn in the 2025 NCAA Tournament championship game, South Carolina made a big bet in the offseason.

The Gamecocks dipped into the transfer portal, likely opened their pocketbook and added the nation’s top scorer last season, Ta’Niya Latson, to their program.

Latson’s arrival came on the heels of MiLaysia Fulwiley’s departure. Fulwiley, South Carolina’s spark plug off the bench last season, ultimately landed at LSU.

In the modern college era, the transfer portal has led to rosters operating like revolving doors. Loyalty in college isn’t rewarded in the way it was in past years. Players have more autonomy in their careers and don’t have to worry about sitting out a year in pursuit of finding a better situation or more money.
