Matthew Stafford has a chance to accomplish something that’s never been done before in the history of the NFL.

Named a finalist for the NFL MVP award, Stafford — one of the favorites to win — will become the longest-tenured player in league history to win the award. He’s played 17 seasons in the NFL and this year was the first time he’s ever finished in the top five of MVP voting.

Before he learns his fate, Stafford graced the red carpet with his wife, Kelly, by his side.

Before he learns his MVP fate, Matthew Stafford graced the NFL Honors red carpet with his wife, Kelly, by his side.

In what was arguably the best season of his career, Stafford threw for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns, both NFL-highs.

He led the Rams to playoff victories over Carolina and NFC West rival San Francisco before falling short against Seattle in the NFF title game. He finished 22-for-35 for 374 yards, 3 TDs in the loss.

Stafford signed a 2-year, $80 million contract with the Rams last offseason, but it came with a caveat. It was basically two one-year deals, with the second installment of $40 million only guaranteed if Stafford is on the roster on March 15, or the fifth day of the new league.

While rumors continue to swirl regarding his status for next season, there is serious speculation he might take his MVP trophy and ride off into the sunset.

However, with the Rams expected to be a Super Bowl favorite next season if he returns and Los Angeles hosting the Super Bowl in February 2027, the chance at a true Hollywood ending might be too much to pass up.

Hosted by Jon Hamm, the 15th annual NFL Honors 2026 takes place from the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
