FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Jets lost, 27-14, to the Patriots on Thursday night. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:

1. The best word to describe this game for the Jets is: Blah. Nothing was surprising about this game. Everyone knew the Jets were going to get beat and they got beat. Everyone knew the Patriots have better talent, better coaching and are light years ahead at quarterback. That was all on display. Maybe it was a bit surprising that the Jets kept it as close as they did until the fourth quarter. But did you ever really think the Jets were going to win this game?

The postgame locker room was strange. There was no anger (Aaron Glenn did not even snap at reporters). There seemed to just be resignation. This is who the Jets are and they are playing out the string. Don’t read me wrong, they are still trying. But I think the Jets know what you know: They can’t expect to beat the Patriots right now and they can’t expect to beat the Ravens next week. When the Dolphins and Saints show up on the schedule, check back in.

The Jets are in a bad place right now. They are irrelevant. They don’t really feel worth discussing or analyzing. Anyone who’s ever watched a football game can tell you that Justin Fields is not cutting it at quarterback. But it’s not just him. The Jets have wide receivers who drop passes. They have linebackers who can’t tackle. They have defensive backs that can’t cover me. This is all clear and in a sports world now fueled by debate, there is no debating the Jets. They stink.
