Jets hoping to strengthen their bonds during this England trip

HERTFORDSHIRE, England — You won’t catch the Jets hanging out at Big Ben this week, but coach Aaron Glenn does hope this overseas trip gives his beleaguered team a chance to bond.

“I really love the idea of us getting away, get a chance to get in this hotel, be able to vibe together as a group, being honest in exactly the things we have to work on to improve on where we’re at,” Glenn said Wednesday. “Our guys are doing a really good job of that.”

The Jets traveled here Monday night, earlier than they have in their three previous trips for London games.

Quarterback Justin Fields said Glenn challenged the players to speak to some of their teammates on this trip that they don’t usually hang out with.

“This is definitely an opportunity for us to get closer as a team, build that camaraderie, and just get closer,” Fields said.

The team is staying at The Grove, a hotel about an hour outside of central London.

They have a weight room, meeting rooms and practice field on site.

At 0-5, this trip might be arriving at a perfect time for the Jets. They are away from home and all of the noise of New York.

“The thing that we’re not running from is the fact that we are where we are. We’re 0-5,” Glenn said. “There’s a lot of work for us to get done. This is a really good week to try to hone in on those things. There are a lot of distractions on the outside. That’s what the NFL is. You can’t run from that. I’m not running from that either. We just have to work our ass off on a daily basis to get out of this hole.”

Rookie tight end Mason Taylor said the players are embracing the time away.

“I guess you could say it’s a little getaway from the madness that is happening right now,” Taylor said. “I think just being on this is definitely an advantage, you kind of get to know your team a little bit better.”

One thing that is not on the agenda for the Jets is sightseeing.

“Man, we’re here to play a game,” Glenn said. “You know, that’s what our focus is. Obviously, when you don’t have to drive home and things like that, you’re going to have extra time, but man, our total focus is how do we get out there and how do we beat the Broncos, and that’s what we’re working on every day. And I think guys are looking at it that way, too.”
