WrestleMania going to Saudi Arabia is just part of WWE’s new sad reality

WWE hasn’t done itself any favors entering one of the biggest days in pro wrestling history.

For the first time, WWE will put one of its main roster premium live events on the same day as an AEW pay-per-view. To boot, Wrestlepalooza will be the first show of WWE’s media rights deal with ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer streaming platform.

It will also be the first AEW pay-per-view streamed on HBO Max with All Out. The stakes could not be higher as WWE created a new event and is using it to counterprogram its biggest rival.

This comes on the heels of the news that WrestleMania will be leaving North America for the first time and heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2027. It’s a decision that will be seen by many fans as a money grab, thanks to Saudi Arabia’s historically poor human rights record and a deal that puts fans’ interests last and the almighty dollar first. The Royal Rumble is already heading to Riyadh in January.
