In a Thursday night NFL game that had a brutal few injuries, one in the fourth quarter ended up being the most significant.

Commanders running back Austin Ekeler went down with a right Achilles injury before being carted off in a 27-18 loss to the Packers.

Multiple reports after the game indicated that the Commanders believe Ekeler tore his Achilles.

He’s expected to get an MRI on Friday, though the team does not have “a lot of hope” that it will bring good news, NFL Network reported.

Austin Ekeler went down with an Achilles injury in the Commanders’ 27-18 loss to the Packers on Sept. 11, 2025.

As Washington attempted to get back into the game, Ekeler delivered a chip block before running his route on a passing play, going down to the Lambeau Field turf as he then attempted to cut up the field.

He grabbed at his lower right leg as he went down to the grass.

The nine-year NFL veteran was helped off the field with the aid of staffers, not putting any pressure on his right leg.

Ekeler, in his second season with Washington, had eight carries for 17 yards before leaving the game.

It followed a Week 1 in which the 30-year-old had six rushes for 26 yards in a win over the Giants.

The Commanders already had seen defensive lineman Deatrich Wise Jr. exit with a quad injury when a Packers player fell onto him as he attempted to block a kick.

On the Green Bay side, Jayden Reed left early with an injury that was later determined to be a fractured collarbone.
