After a few weeks off for the summer break, “Jeopardy!” returns with new episodes tonight, Sept. 8, and for the very first time, the quiz show will hit streaming.

“Jeopardy!” has long been notoriously hard to watch if you don’t catch live airings or have the show set to DVR every night, especially if you live somewhere where the show airs in the middle of the day. New episodes never made their way to streaming services.

With the premiere of Season 42 tonight, Sept. 8, all of that is changing. New episodes of “Jeopardy!” will make their way to both Peacock and Hulu the day after airing on cable television, so subscribers of those services can watch current “Jeopardy!” without ever missing an episode.

In addition to the streaming news, the show also announced that a slate of “postseason” tournaments will return throughout the Season 42 run, all hosted by Ken Jennings. These include the Second Chance and Champions Wildcard competitions, the Tournament of Champions (ToC), and Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament (JIT).

“Wheel of Fortune,” which often airs either before or after “Jeopardy!,” will also stream in a similar manner.

When does ‘Jeopardy!’ Season 42 start?

“Jeopardy!” returns for Season 42 on Monday, Sept. 8 with times and networks varying by TV market. In the tri-state area, episodes typically air at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. ET.

How to stream ‘Jeopardy!’

As we noted above, “Jeopardy!” will officially be able to stream online one day after airing on television. That means Monday’s episode will stream online Tuesday, and so on. There are two streaming services you can subscribe to that will allow you to keep up with new episodes of “Jeopardy!” even if you don’t have cable: Peacock and Hulu.

When you subscribe to Peacock via Prime Video, you’ll be able to take advantage of a seven-day free trial before $16.99/month payments begin on the Premium Plus ad-free plan. If you’d prefer the less expensive Premium plan, you can subscribe via Peacock without a free trial.

Hulu offers new subscribers a 30-day free trial on its basic, ad-supported plan. Following that, the service costs $9.99/month (or $18.99/month without ads).

Both services will always have the five most recent episodes available to watch, so new episodes will expire after about a week on streaming.

How to watch ‘Jeopardy!’ live

If you prefer to catch your “Jeopardy!” live, you’ll need a live TV streaming service that carries the local network the show airs on if you don’t have cable or access to a TV antenna.

One we love, with tons of flexible subscription options and plans, is DIRECTV, which has a five-day free trial and currently starts at $49.99/month thanks to some limited time offers.
