The Knicks’ previous run to the Finals, way back in the 20th century, produced two iconic moments and two epic series but ultimately ended in disappointment.

As much as Jalen Brunson’s crew has, the ’99 Knicks captivated NYC as they squeezed through controversy, a changing roster and the nasty East. The Post spoke Thursday with four members of that team — Chris Childs, Charlie Ward, Kurt Thomas and GM Ed Tapscott — about some of the biggest shots in franchise history, the “hand-to-hand combat” battles with the Heat and Pacers, the delight of seeing a teammate’s son now leading the Knicks, and a belief the 2026 version is better equipped to win the title.

Here are their memories and observations on ….

1. Overcoming adversity

There was a condensed season in ’99 because of a lockout, a feud between the coach and front office played out in the media, rumors of coach Jeff Van Gundy on the hot seat percolated and pivotal new teammates in Latrell Sprewell and Marcus Camby needed to be incorporated.
