Chloe Kim, one of the biggest American stars at the 2026 Winter Olympics, will begin her quest for an unprecedented third gold gedal in a row at the Snowboarding Women’s Halfpipe on Wednesday.

Despite sustaining a shoulder injury just weeks before the Opening Ceremonies, Kim, 25, is the clear favorite to win the event, according to prediction market Kalshi.

Kim and the rest of the field will go through their qualifying runs Wednesday, followed by the finals on Thursday, Feb. 12.

The market is still in its early stages, with just under $24,000 of volume, as of Tuesday afternoon, but it seems pretty clear that Kim is going to end up as the chalk.

The two-time Olympic champion boasts a 55-percent chance of three-peating, per Kalshi, well ahead of her main competitor.

Kim burst onto the scene at the 2018 Games in PyeongChang when she became the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal at the age of 17.

The Californian followed up with another gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

In addition to her success at the Olympics, Kim is also a three-time world champion in the halfpipe.

In a fun twist, Kim’s main rival in Wednesday’s event will be Gaon Choi, who has a 36-percent chance of claiming gold, per Kalshi.

A wunderkind from South Korea, Choi is 17 years old, the same age that Kim was when she set the record with her first gold medal in PyeongChang.

Choi already broke one of Kim’s snowboarding records when she became the youngest woman (14 years, two months) to win the snowboard halfpipe gold medal at the X Games.

Choi, who won’t turn 18 until November, has enjoyed a sensational run up to the Olympics, winning three consecutive 2025-26 FIS Snowboard World Cup events, most recently on Jan. 17.

No South Korean has ever won a gold medal in snowboarding, and Choi is aiming to become the first Korean female athlete to win a medal in snow sports.
