The Broncos had football fans wonder why their locker room was filled with smoke after their statement win over the Eagles on Sunday.

Video of Broncos head coach Sean Payton giving a postgame locker room speech showed the room appearing to be filled with smoke.

There was so much smoke that Payton was hard to see at times when CBS cut to footage of the head coach addressing his team after the 21-17 victory over the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.

The scene had raised some fans’ curiosity, although Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer clarified the situation on social media.

“Got this cleared up,” he wrote on X, “it’s a smoke machine Denver has for wins.”

Not nearly as exciting an answer as some football fans were surely imagining, but it cleared up any concern that there was some sort of problem at the Linc.

As for the speech, Payton gave an impassioned address to his players following the win, even if it was hard to see him.

“I want to say something, men,” he started off saying. “We came here to win a game and I can’t tell you – and I know on behalf of the coaches and ownership and everyone else – how proud we are of the way you played today. When you play a team like that, it’s never going to be perfect, but man, not once did we flinch.

“And that’s what you have to do to beat a team like that and you did it.”

The feisty Broncos moved to 3-2 on the season, putting together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, while handing the defending Super Bowl champions their first loss in 2025.

That means a few more chances to break out the smoke machine.
