Gregg Giannotti went off on Brandon Tierney on Monday morning.

On Giannotti’s WFAN show with Boomer Esiason, he ripped Tierney for “not having a sense of humor” in an angry rant.

Tierney, who was let go by WFAN in December, had called in to preview St. John’s in the NCAA Tournament last week on the midday show and called Giannotti a “bad teammate.”

“Everybody that worked with Brandon couldn’t stand him…people hated working with that guy. He’s the bad teammate. He would trash his producers. He would belittle them. So don’t tell me I’m a bad teammate because you can’t take a joke” – Gregg Giannotti on Brandon Tierney pic.twitter.com/JB0lpPBGqT

Giannotti said the complaints stemmed from a prank the WFAN staff played on Tierney, who calls St. John’s games, where they brought in a caller to rail into him.

“Everybody that worked with Brandon couldn’t stand him,” Giannotti said. “People hated working with that guy. He’s the bad teammate. He would trash his producers. He would belittle them. So don’t tell me I’m a bad teammate because you can’t take a joke.

“He is someone who takes things way too seriously, he can’t laugh at himself, and he doesn’t get it. And if he did, and he showed a little bit more personality, maybe he would’ve had more success here.”

Giannotti recalled a time when Tierney was slated to go on a CBS Sports radio show in Pittsburgh, but Giannotti was forced to sub in because the executives realized Tierney wasn’t “entertaining or funny” and that they’d “made a miscalculation.”

He also mentioned when ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith “trashed” former Giants running back and WFAN host Tiki Barber. Instead of choosing his co-worker’s side, Giannotti said Tierney wouldn’t because he liked both of them.

“Guess what, guess who has a team? This guy,” Giannotti said, pointing to himself. “Best of luck, if I need a motivational speech, I know where to go.”

Tierney was dropped by WFAN after it swapped around its lineups at the beginning of this year. Craig Carton returned to the station after his FS1 show was axed, partnering with former overnight host Chris McMonigle on the afternoon show, while afternoon hosts Barber and Evan Roberts moved to middays.

The changes left Tierney and Sal Licata, who’d previously hosted “BT and Sal” on WFAN, without a spot. Their final show was on Dec. 12, 2025, when Tierney’s final call came from his father.

“You know I don’t want it to end, but I’m not afraid of the end. I’m good. I’m good. I mean, I might not sound good now, but I promise you, I’m good,” Tierney said on the show. “I’m gonna keep fighting. And I’m gonna do something really big.”

Prior to his departure, Tierney had spent the last 13 years working in New York with both CBS Sports Radio and WFAN.

He’s since focused on making content for his YouTube channel “BT Unleashed.”
