These vets are living the high life!

The Veterans of Foreign Wars has partnered with a Florida-based beverage company to sell cannabis-infused cocktails to its 1.4 million members across the country.

The buzzy deal with Torch Drinks will allow the major veterans organization to sell low-dose spiked seltzers at its posts nationwide later this year, in states where it is approved.

The drinks contain Delta-9 THC, a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants that has psychoactive effects. Torch Drinks

Part of the proceeds of the sales at VFW posts will also be used to help veterans who are struggling financially.

Torch’s pot-infused sips are crafted with hemp-derived Delta-9 THC, a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants that has psychoactive effects that make users feel “high.”

Hemp-derived refers to the THC content. Hemp is legally defined as cannabis that contains a concentration of less than 0.3% THC.

“The VFW’s top priority is ensuring that veterans and their families receive the care, benefits and support they have earned through their service,” said VFW National Commander Carol Whitmore of the partnership.

“Working with Torch helps us raise funds for those vital programs while also allowing us to explore better ways to meet the needs of an evolving veterans’ community.”

A research paper published in the Journal of Affective Disorders in December found that cannabis “was associated with acute reductions in anxiety and depression.”

However, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that cannabis use does come with health risks, including an increased risk of stroke and heart disease, and has been linked to mental health issues, such as social anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia.

“Customers tell us Torch products help promote relaxation and revitalization, which is why we want to make it more widely available to people and veterans who may enjoy it. It is our mission to support the men and women who serve the United States in uniform while promoting ongoing research and discussions about innovative health solutions,” said Collin Kerrigan, co-founder of Torch Beverage Company.

The announcement comes a week after President Trump touted the medical benefits of CBD for seniors.

CBD, like THC, is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants — but unlike THC, it does not produce any psychoactive effects.

Twenty-seven states will allow Torch drinks in their VFW posts.
