The 76ers will be without yet another star for a few weeks.
Philadelphia point guard Tyrese Maxey was diagnosed with a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger after aggravating it during Saturday’s game against the Hawks and will be re-evaluated in three weeks, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
Maxey, 25, is in the midst of a career season, averaging 29 points with 6.7 assists in a league-leading 38.3 minutes per game.
He made his second career All-Star team earlier this season, and appeared on his way to making his first All-NBA Team before the injury.
With 61 games under his belt, Maxey would need to come back before the regular season ends and play in four more games to be eligible for All-NBA.
Maxey had been the one consistent presence on a Sixers team that had somewhat surprised this season despite injuries and setbacks across their roster.
The oft-injured Joel Embiid has been limited to just 31 games with various injuries.
Paul George remains sidelined after being suspended 25 games for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy in late January.
In some good news, the Sixers will welcome back breakout rookie VJ Edgecombe, who had missed the last week with a lumbar contusion, on Tuesday night against the Grizzlies.

Despite all the adversity for Philadelphia, the 76ers remain in the thick of the East play-in race and have an outside shot at grabbing one of the top-six playoff spots in the conference.
They are 34-30 and in eighth in the East heading into Tuesday’s play, although they have lost two straight and six of their last 10 games.
