Travis Scott has been “fully cooperating” with authorities after appearing in a Texas court Monday to answer questions regarding the 2021 Astroworld Festival incident.
“Travis Scott’s deposition is typical legal procedure,” Ted Anastasiou, Scott’s rep, told the Associated Press. “What is not typical is how the media continues to focus on him despite being cleared of any wrongdoing by extensive government investigations, including by the Houston Police Department.”
“Travis is fully cooperating with the legal process while still remaining committed to his tour in support of his record-breaking album, ‘Utopia,’ and his charitable efforts to support at-risk communities,” continued Anastasiou.
The Post reached out to Scott for additional comment.
The event, which was held at Houston’s NRG Park on November 5, 2021, divulged into chaos after a mass of concertgoers “began to compress” to the front of the stage mere minutes before Scott was supposed to take the stage.
According to local authorities, a concerned attendee claimed that people were “getting stepped on” and people were seen jumping the fence. Scott and special guest Drake also reportedly continued to perform despite the ongoing stampede.
Scott’s appearance at the Harris County Courthouse this week marks the first time the rapper, 32, has officially answered questions from lawyers regarding the incident that left 10 people dead and several hundred injured.
In June, a grand jury was convened to decide if Scott as well as other Astroworld planners should face criminal charges. No official charges have been filed.
“Today’s decision by the Harris County District Attorney confirms what we have known all along — that Travis Scott is not responsible for the AstroWorld tragedy,” Kent Schaffer, Scott’s attorney, told People at the time.
“This is consistent with investigative reporting by numerous media outlets and federal and state government reports that have squarely placed the onus for event safety crises on organizers, operators and contractors – not performers,” continued Schaffer. “While waiting patiently for the District Attorney’s decision to not file charges, Travis Scott has been inaccurately and wrongly singled out, despite stopping the show three separate times and being unaware of the events as they were unfolding. Now that this chapter is closed, we hope for the government efforts to focus on what is most important – stopping future heartbreaking tragedies like Astroworld from ever occurring again.”
