It would be incorrect to say nobody was happy with the close-to-four-hour yawnfest bore that was Super Bowl 2026 on Sunday night in Santa Clara, Calif. The Seahawks ransacked the Patriots 29-13. If you are just seeing that score now because you’ve been asleep since the third quarter, don’t feel bad. You’re not alone.

The small confederation who enjoyed what they saw Sunday, in no particular order:

• The fair city of Seattle, because whenever your team wins a championship in any sport, you don’t have to apologize for it, explain it, slap an asterisk on it. Besides, the Seahawks were the only football team in Northern California who actually reported for work Sunday.

• The proud alumni of Marist College up in Poughkeepsie, hard by the Mid-Hudson Bridge. Until Sunday, the proudest athletic achievement ever turned in by a former Red Fox athlete was Rik Smits, Class of ’88, who in the 2000 NBA Finals averaged 12.7 points for the Pacers against the Lakers. It was a nice run for the Dunkin’ Dutchman, but he has to give up the wheel. He rides shotgun now to Jason Myers, Class of ’13, who scored 17 points on five field goals and two extra points and for a while looked like he might actually have a shot at the MVP.
