“The Garfield Movie” has something to purr about after it clawed its way to the top of the Friday box office.
The animated adventure comedy based on the beloved comic book cat, which was in the No. 2 spot last week, raked in $3.735 million during its second Friday in theaters, The Numbers reported.
It is slated to take in $13 million this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It managed to beat out “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” which was No. 1 last weekend.
This week, “Furiosa” fell down a notch to second, with sales of just over $3 million. The post-apocalyptic action-adventure film, which also debuted last Friday, is predicted to suffer a drop of about 59% in revenue in its second weekend in theaters, per Variety.
“IF” remained in third place with $2.86 million in revenue.
Both “The Garfield Movie” and “IF” surpassed the $100 million mark in worldwide revenue this week, according to Deadline.
The sci-fi action flick “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” stayed in fourth, with a $2.4 million take.
The Disney film, the fourth installment in the “Planet of the Apes” reboot franchise, reached a milestone this week, topping $300 million in sales worldwide, according to Deadline.
“Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle” came in fifth, taking home just over $1.9 million.
The Japanese animated adaptation of a manga series, which is scheduled to bring in $3.7 million this weekend, pushed “Fall Guy,” which was in fifth place last week, out of the top five.
