It’s a big day for showbiz.
The nominations for the 2025 Tony Awards, honoring the best of Broadway, were announced Thursday morning by past winners Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce.
Last year, the Tonys saw “The Outsiders” and “Stereophonic” take the top honors for Best Musical and Best Play, respectively. The acting wins included Paulson for “Appropriate,” Jeremy Strong for “An Enemy of the People,” Jonathan Groff for “Merrily We Roll Along” and Maleah Joi Moon for “Hell’s Kitchen.”
The 2024-2025 Broadway season featured 21 new plays and 21 new musicals that were all eligible for Thursday’s nominations.
The stars who took Broadway by storm over the last year include Nicole Scherzinger in “Sunset Boulevard,” Audra McDonald in “Gypsy,” Darren Criss in “Maybe Happy Ending,” Sarah Snook in “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal in “Othello” and George Clooney in “Good Night, and Good Luck.”
The 2025 Tony Awards air from New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 8, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
