In the latest edition of Joel Sherman’s 3 Things I Think, he examines what broke right for the Mets over the weekend as they won three straight to take the four-game series against the Giants.
Kodai Senga provided a strong start on Sunday — on normal rest, no less — and so far has shown promising signs. His performance followed impressive outings by Clay Holmes and Nolan McLean. Those starts were badly needed after David Peterson’s clunker Thursday in the series-opening loss.
The bullpen has been stable early on, with Devin Williams and Luke Weaver crucial in the late innings. Once AJ Minter is healthy, the ‘pen should be even stronger.
And the offense, which features a few wild cards, has flashed its potential. Mark Vientos’ hot start is encouraging, as is Francisco Alvarez’s. Luis Robert Jr. has also shown why the Mets took a gamble on him.
