Texas A&M defensive back Bryce Anderson had to be carted off the field following a scary injury on Saturday night.

Late in the second quarter of the Aggies’ game against Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., Anderson took the worst from a hit he delivered on Fighting Irish tight end Eli Raridon after he caught a pass, lying motionless for a couple of minutes in what could be a head and/or neck injury.

Anderson remained face-down on the ground for a few minutes following the hit before being looked at by training staff from both teams.

While down with the injury, the entire Aggies team and support staff kneeled in prayer around Anderson.

“It goes without saying that injuries, of any kind, are the worst part of this sport,” commentator Noah Eagle said on the broadcast. “But certainly the ones with a fallen brother … and you can see the pain and concern on the Aggies’ side and the Notre Dame side.”

“That brotherhood extends to both sidelines and both programs,” fellow broadcaster Todd Blackledge added.

After eventually being put on the stretcher in a neck brace, Anderson gave a hopeful thumbs up to his teammates, which was met with loud supporting applause from the crowd at Notre Dame Stadium.

“It is a violent game and everybody that plays it knows that and understands that. But you just are never prepared for an injury that looks like this,” Blackledge said.

It remains unclear what exactly Anderson’s injuries are, but it appears to be concerning his neck and head area based on the play.

Anderson, 21, is currently in his senior season with the Aggies after playing in all 13 games during his junior campaign last year.

After finishing with an 8-5 record last season, Anderson said that he is confident in Texas A&M’s defense under the guidance of head coach Mike Elko heading into this year.

“Working the details more, we’ve been dialed in on working more of the details,” Anderson said in April. “With another year in the system, we know it better, we’re more confident in what we’re doing, and we’re playing fast.”
