Syosset girls soccer team storms into county finals, just like boys squad

What a time to be a Syosset soccer player.

Like the boys team, the girls have a date with the county finals this Sunday against defending champion Oceanside, which as a one seed steamrolled its way to a 6-0 victory over Port Washington in the semifinals.

Syosset, meanwhile, fought tooth and nail to beat Massapequa 1-0 in overtime in the last round.

“The girls have really come together as a group and really generated this team-first mentality,” three-seed Syosset head coach Tyler Arnone told The Post.

“That’s helped us this year because we faced a ton of adversity, whether it be injuries, playing in a top conference, or results didn’t always go our way.”

Both the boys and girls teams at Syosset are feeding off each other’s energy, said Arnone, who added that the boys came out to support the girls’ semifinals game.

“It’s a nice situation we’re in,” he said.

Down on the south shore, though, Danielle Chiera’s Oceanside squad — which won the county title last season for the first time since 1978 — means business.

“I think that they feel a lot of pride going into the tournament, getting the number No. 1 seed,” said the Sailors’ coach, who added her group has been poised to repeat since Day 1 of the 2025 season.

“The uncomfortable elephant in the room was that we had 11 seniors graduate — and six of them were starters,” Chiera said.

“We knew success this time would have to come from the girls. The players really made sure that they had the mindset that last year wasn’t a fluke.”

The coach added that her group “has tremendous, tremendous effort and heart,” a sentiment Arnone echoed about his Syosset squad as well.

“This team in particular plays with a tremendous amount of grit. They have a big belief in what they’re working toward,” he said.
