A specialty chocolate company is expanding its recall of candy bars to include several more flavors due to possible contamination with salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Spring & Mulberry – a Raleigh, North Carolina-based company that sells date-sweetened chocolates for $10 a bar, or $95 for a variety pack – initially issued a voluntary recall on Jan. 12 of its Mint Leaf bars over fears of possible bacterial contamination.

It has since expanded the recall to cover several other chocolate bar flavors, including Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, Mixed Berry, Mulberry Fennel, Pacan Date and Pure Dark Minis, according to an FDA announcement.

The chocolate bars have been on sale online and in select retail stores since Sept. 15, 2025, and can be identified by their box color and lot codes, the company said.

Salmonella can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in vulnerable populations, including young kids, elderly individuals or people with weakened immune systems.

In some rare cases, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause serious infections, endocarditis or arthritis, according to food safety officials.

The company urged individuals to seek medical attention immediately if they have any symptoms, like fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

It is not aware of any confirmed illnesses linked to the recall thus far.

Spring & Mulberry said it initiated the recall after routine third-party testing by a manufacturer found the finished Mint Leaf product tested positive for salmonella.

It said it expanded the recall because salmonella can be difficult to detect and sometimes appears intermittently.

Customers should not consume the recalled candy bars, and should immediately throw them away. They can email Spring & Mulberry at [email protected] with a photo of the impacted product’s lot code for a refund or replacement.
