An injured British woman was rescued after she was hacked into by a boat propeller while diving off a Thai island.

Aimee Bacchetta, 30, was paddling off the idyllic Similan Islands in Phang Nga province when she injured her right leg on a whirring boat propeller on October 15.

Crew from the speedboat Saracha called the Royal Thai Navy, and medics were dispatched to the scene.

The holidaymaker suffered a deep wound near her right Achilles tendon.

Responders stopped the bleeding and gave her painkillers before carrying her ashore and taking her to the hospital.

She has since been released from hospital as she recovers from the ordeal.

Island 8, also known as Koh Similan, southeast of mainland Thailand, welcomed the first batch of tourists on October 15 after the area was closed for the rainy monsoon season.

The Similan Islands are a group of 11 small islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand.

Known for their clear blue waters, vibrant coral reefs, and diverse marine life, they are a popular destination for diving, snorkeling, and sightseeing.

It comes after the death of a woman who was swimming off another Thai island and was slashed by a boat propeller.

The Thai national had been bathing off Koh Larn Island with a foreign man when she reportedly suffered lacerations on her chest, body, right knee, right foot, and left arm in the incident last year.
