Skip Bayless was treated to a good old-fashioned roast by wife Ernestine in a post-Thanksgiving episode of his self-titled show.
When discussing the Paramount + series “Lioness,” Ernestine — who has been married to the sports media personality since 2016 — ribbed Bayless, 73, over his passion for the Cowboys and the risks he would take to catch a glimpse of them in action.
“The house could be on fire and just as long as the TV is still not on fire, you will sit in the house watching it and just tell the fire department just put the fire out around me. Me, I would be out of the house in one second because I don’t want to die in a fire. You have to watch the Dallas Cowboys and see if they’re going to lose and then you could bitch a little bit about it,” Ernestine said, as transcribed by Awful Announcing.
Bayless then took a stroll down memory lane, recounting their first date when he “warned” Ernestine about his unyielding devotion to his career.
“I swore an oath to this life,” he said.
Bayless — who told Ernestine during that fateful outing, “You’ll always be 1A to my job,” should the romance take off — then praised his forever partner.
“You are the most loyal companion anybody’s ever had,” Bayless said Tuesday.
“… I was most attracted to the fact that you didn’t like sports because I don’t want a me, I don’t want somebody who is going to obsess with me and feed my addiction to sports, so that was number one. Number two, you didn’t cook. And I came from a family that went deep in cooks, starting with my brother, whose world-renowned, and the point is, you didn’t boil water, you didn’t do anything.”
Bayless, who took to X on Thanksgiving to celebrate the Cowboys’ 27-20 win over the Giants, echoed similar sentiments about Ernestine in a 2019 interview with The Post.
“She’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me,” Skip said. “I get emotional about it because she is so real, so true and so loyal. I don’t know anyone who could put up with me, but she has from Day 1. We are not just good together. We are great together.”
In addition to Ernestine, the author of “Balls: How to Keep Your Relationship Alive When You Live with a Sports-Obsessed Guy,” the couple’s beloved canine Hazel joined Tuesday’s installment of Bayless’ show.
Bayless left his post as host of “Undisputed” in August following an eight-year run at Fox Sports.
