“I Like Me,” director Colin Hanks’ new documentary celebrating the life of the late comedic actor John Candy, will screen at eight North American venues with host Ryan Reynolds ahead of its Oct. 10 Amazon Prime release date.

Tri-staters are in luck, too.

As of now, the film is slated to stop at New Brunswick, NJ’s State Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 25 and Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Reynolds will be joined by friends at all gigs. According to a press release, the “friends” set to take the stage with him are “surprise guests and members of Candy’s inner circle including family and friends for moderated conversations,” which will be moderated by NYU professor Dan Pasternak and Kevin McCarthy.

“Movies bring people together and millions of people came together to watch John Candy,” Reynolds said in a statement. “I am so excited to share our film on a big screen and to share the stage with some of the people who knew him best as they share their memories of the man.”

Net proceeds from all screenings will go toward St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Thus far, reviews from tastemakers and critics out of the Toronto International Film Festival have been kind for the sentimental look back at Candy’s life featuring behind-the-scenes archival footage that’s never been seen before.

“…the heartfelt approach feels right and honest,” The New York Post’s Johnny Oleksinski wrote in a rave review. “Directed by Colin Hanks, ‘I Like Me’ portrays Candy as a hardworking family man driven, in no small part, by a ticktock feeling that his life would be cut short.”

Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks, Macaulay Culkin, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Catherine O’Hara and Andrea Martin are just a few of the many big names who lent their talent to the documentary celebrating the “SCTV” alum.

For more information, our team has everything you need to know and more about Ryan Reynold’s tour screening the John Candy documentary “I Like Me” below.
