A Ryanair flight carrying 184 passengers has been forced to abandon its take off after flames were seen shooting from the left engine.

Everyone onboard the plane managed to escape the plane without any injuries after it caught fire on a runway at Italy’s Aeroporti di Puglia airport in Brindisi.

The flight, due to head off to Turin at around 8.35am local time today, was abandoned after a ‘strong flame’ was noticed on the wing of the Boeing 737-800 as it taxied.

Local media reported that the fire came from a severe issue with the engine.

Italian newspaper Correire Della Sera reported that everyone onboard was escorted off using an inflatable slide following ‘moments of fear’, adding that all planes from the airport were grounded for just under three hours, before planes were allowed to fly again at 11.25am local time.

A Ryanair spokesperson told the Sun: ‘Flight FR8826 from Brindisi to Turin was delayed this morning after cabin crew observed fumes on the outside of the aircraft.

‘Passengers were disembarked without incident and returned to the terminal by bus.

‘We sincerely apologise to affected passengers for this delay.’

The spokesperson added that a spare plane will take off later this morning to get flyers to Turin safely.

It comes after British passengers described chaotic scenes after ‘all four’ tyres on a Ryanair plane burst as it landed in Italy.

Arriving and departing flights have been suspended at Bergamo’s Orio al Serio airport, near Milan, following the incident involving the flight from Barcelona.

Dramatic pictures show the passenger plane with its tyres missing and metal wheels ground down after apparently scraping along the runway, which was also damaged.

Onlookers who had been on another flight have claimed that their pilot told them it happened due to a ‘bad landing’, though this has not been confirmed by the airline or airport.

Alice Longhurst, a marketing consultant from London, said: ‘You could smell the burning rubber in the plane. That was quite scary.

‘We were ready to go and there were flames which was scary. I was shocked. I never experienced anything like this before.’

‘They told us to wait for a couple of hours and then they took us off the plane,’ the 35-year-old went on.
