The Red Sox are among the teams that are interested in trying to make a move to acquire All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte from the Diamondbacks.

Multiple reports on Tuesday suggested that the Red Sox had their eye on Marte, though it isn’t clear what they would be willing to give up to bring him to Boston.

Marte, 32, is coming off a season in which he won a second Silver Slugger Award and hit .283/.376/.517 with 28 home runs and 72 RBIs in 126 games.

He still has five years and $91 million — along with an $11.5 million player option for the 2031 season — remaining on the contract extension that he signed with the Diamondbacks back in April.

“There are some [hitters of note who are trade candidates],” Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told reporters in Orlando at the Winter Meetings, according to the Boston Globe. “But it’s really difficult to pry other team’s best players away from them. And in doing so, you have to give up talent yourself.

“These types of trades should be uncomfortable for both sides. And so we’re engaged in those conversations. It’s impossible to know today what will get executed, what will reach the finish line, and what won’t. But going to trades and free agency are both good ways to improve our roster.”

Marte isn’t the only player the Sox have inquired about, according to the outlet, which has also included checking in with the Rangers about shortstop Corey Seager, the Astros about third baseman Isaac Paredes and with the Cardinals for infielder/outfielder Brendan Donovan.

And The Athletic reported that there were three other unknown teams that are interested in Marte.

There doesn’t appear to be any rush by the D-backs to move Marte, but they will be cognizant of the fact that after the 10th day of the 2026 season, Marte will have a full no-trade clause go into effect.
