Like father, like son.

Highly touted high school quarterback Gunner Rivers, the son of former NFL QB Philip Rivers, is headed to his old man’s alma mater to play college football, committing to NC State on Monday.

Gunner is a four-star recruit for the Class of 2027, according to 247Sports, coming off a junior season in which he completed 208 of 290 passes for 2,813 yards and 44 touchdowns, while only throwing five interceptions.

Gunner, who plays for St. Michael Catholic in Fairhope, Ala., led the program to a 13-1 record and an appearance in the state title game this season while being coached by his father.

Through his high school career, the eldest Rivers son — and fourth-oldest in the 12-child clan — has 10,200 yards and 111 passing touchdowns.

Gunner Rivers reportedly had several options on the table for his services, which included offers from Auburn, Georgia, Miami and Boston College, according to On3.

The commitment by the younger Rivers is a big win for the NC State football program and head coach Daver Doeren, as they hope to get things back to where they were during the days Philip Rivers was under center in a Wolfpack jersey.

The elder Rivers spent four years at NC State from 2000-03, where he broke nearly every conference and program passing record.

Philip Rivers made an NCAA-record 51 straight starts at quarterback and finished his time there with 13,484 passing yards.

He had 95 touchdown passes and was taken fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft

Phillip went on to have a lengthy NFL career with almost 64,000 career passing yards for 425 touchdowns and 212 interceptions.

The former NFL player came out of retirement this past season to suit up for the Colts and interviewed for the Bills coaching job.
