The Mets are seen as one of three top contenders for Kyle Tucker and will be “opportunistic” if they can match up.
What might make things tough: The other two top contenders, as SNY’s Jim Duquette said, are the attractive World Series combatants, the Blue Jays and Dodgers.
The Jays — whose spring training is in Dunedin, Fla., driving distance from Tucker’s Tampa home — also may be likelier to go long with Tucker.
The Dodgers are in their usual spot “around the backboard” waiting for a rebound, as they were with Edwin Díaz. They’d presumably prefer something on the shorter side.
