Dante Jovon Core, a freshman defensive back for Ole Miss, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop in Andalusia on Friday, according to Action 5 News.

The No. 6-seeded Rebels (12-1) — at the center of a months-long drama that culminated with Lane Kiffin bolting for LSU last month — have a Sugar Bowl clash with No. 3 Georgia (12-1) in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals on Thursday in New Orleans.

Police said that Core, who is from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, was traveling more than 110 miles per hour and did not have a visible license plate when they stopped him.

Authorities reported smelling marijuana, which led to a search of the vehicle and discovery of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Core was taken into custody on Dec. 26 and he posted a $1,000 bond later that day.

The quarterfinal on New Year’s Day is a rematch after Georgia beat Ole Miss 43-35 on Oct. 18.

Ole Miss won its last six games after that loss.

The SEC champions are on a nine-game win streak after losing to Alabama on Sept. 27.

Core was a four-star prospect out of Choctawatchee High School.

He led the Big Green Indians to the third round of the 2024 FHSAA football playoffs and a 10-3 record — and finished his senior season with 30 tackles, nine pass deflections, and three interceptions.

Core chose Ole Miss over offers from Auburn, Boston College and Mississippi State, among others.
