Taylor Swift’s fans furiously fired back Thursday after the University of Nebraska mocked the singer in a since-deleted tweet following the Cornhuskers’ 20-17 victory over fiancé Travis Kelce’s beloved Cincinnati Bearcats.
Swift and Kelce, who played college football for the Bearcats, attended the game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
The post in question showed an edited snapshot from the couple’s recent engagement, with Nebraska’s “Herbie Husker” mascot swapped for Kelce.
“Change of plans,” the caption read alongside the image of the mascot cozying up to Swift and holding her waist.
Swifties quickly defended the “Fortnight” singer on social media, with the controversial post apparently getting scrubbed.
“That is disgusting,” one person wrote, while another added, “Swifties unite. Beware.”
Some Nebraska fans even condemned the tweet.
“What the absolute f–k is wrong with y’all???????????” one fan wrote. “I am from Nebraska. I have been a Husker fan my entire life and a fan of Taylor Swift since 2006. I don’t care that it’s deleted, I care that y’all thought this was acceptable to post in the first place.”
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who’s a self-declared Swiftie, also wasn’t happy about it.
“As a Big 10 guy and a @_willcompton guy and a Swiftie this deleted tweet is DISGUSTING,” he wrote on X. “No place for this in college football. Act like you’ve been there before Nebraska. I now have no choice but to declare Sept 20th a ‘Taylor Swift Defend Her Honor’ Game for the Wolverines.”
Swift and Kelce, both 35, took in the action from a private suite at GEHA Field with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes.
Kelce and his big brother, retired Eagles legend and fellow Bearcat Jason Kelce, walked on the field together ahead of the game.
Swift flashed her engagement ring in public for the first time and looked stunning in wedding white.
Swift and Kelce, who began dating in 2023, shared a carousel of engagement photos Tuesday when they revealed the exciting news on Instagram.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the couple captioned the joint post, which was set to her track “So High School” from 2024’s “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Kelce proposed to Taylor with an old mine-cut diamond ring with antique references and a silver band, which he co-designed with his jeweler, Kindred Lubeck and Artifex Fine Jewelry.
In an interview with News 5 in Cleveland, his father, Ed, revealed the proposal took place nearly two weeks ago at the All-Pro tight end’s home.
