A selfie-taking tourist who posed with a moving train before being hit by the on-coming locomotive somehow managed to escape with her life, dramatic video shows.

The holidaymaker called Lui was injured – but incredibly survived – the collision with the Alishan Forest Railway train in Chiayi, Taiwan, on December 14.

Footage shows the 55-year-old trying to capture a snap of herself with the train in the background.

She moves around to get the right angle, and edges too close to the tracks.

The train driver honks the vehicle’s horn as they desperately try to alert the tourist, but she continues to focus on her selfie.

The front corner of the driver’s carriage then connects with Lui’s shoulder and sends her tumbling to the ground.

The train operator immediately stopped the train to check on the tourist.

Local media reported that Lui sustained an injury to her left foot from the collision.

The incident caused a 60-minute delay, affecting around 62 passengers and five trips.

A police investigation revealed that the group had violated regulations by entering the track area.

Local media reports indicate that authorities have requested the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency to deny Liu’s travel agency, Dream Travel, permission to enter the Alishan area via the Mianyue Line for a year.

Lui will also face a fine ranging from 307 to 1,538 USD (approximately 243 to 1,217 GBP).

Local reports mentioned that there have been 30 incidents in which tourists were asked to leave the railway tracks.

Seventeen individuals were killed and 156 injured when a train derailed near Alishan Railway Station on March 1, 2003.

On April 27, 2011, five tourists were killed and 113 people were injured in another derailment.
