CHICAGO — Tylor Megill’s next pitch in the major leagues likely won’t be until 2027.

The Mets right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery Monday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza, and is expected to spend all of next season rehabbing.

Megill started 14 games for the Mets this season and pitched to a 3.95 ERA before he was placed on the injured list in June with inflammation in the elbow.

Megill was shut down this month in his rehab because of discomfort.

Megill joined Frankie Montas, Griffin Canning, Danny Young and Dedniel Núñez among Mets pitchers to undergo Tommy John surgery this season.

In addition, Reed Garrett could be headed toward such surgery following his shutdown with elbow inflammation this month.

Megill has served as rotation depth for the Mets for most of the past five seasons.

“We’ll miss him, especially when you are talking about the depth,” Mendoza said before the Mets’ 9-7 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. “Our job is to get him back on the field as quick as possible.”

Tyrone Taylor was set for a full workout before Tuesday’s game that would determine if he’s activated from the injured list on Wednesday.

The outfielder played in two minor league rehab games from Triple-A Syracuse over the weekend in his comeback from a strained left hamstring that has kept him on the IL for the past three weeks.

Kodai Senga faced hitters in live batting practice in Port St. Lucie, Fla., throwing about 45 pitches.

Mendoza indicated he hadn’t reviewed the video on Senga’s outing or spoken to the right-hander.

Senga, who was optioned to the minor leagues on Sept. 5, started twice for Syracuse.

The Mets are trying to determine if Senga could potentially contribute to the roster if they reach the postseason.

Starling Marte (1-for-4) started in left field with Brandon Nimmo (2-for-5, one homer, three RBIs) in center, allowing Mendoza to get an extra bat into the lineup without moving Jeff McNeil (1-for-4) from second base.

Cedric Mullins and Jose Siri have both struggled in sharing center field.

Nimmo’s start in center was his first this season.

Marte started his eighth game this season in the outfield. Marte’s outfield reps have been limited in an attempt to keep his right knee healthy.

“At the end, Marte feeling almost 100 percent with the knee, that was a big factor too,” Mendoza said of the decision to start the veteran in left field. “We’ve been monitoring and protecting him for a long time, but we’re at a point where he understands where we are at and obviously understanding that we would like him to go the next couple of days facing a couple of left-handed pitchers.”
