Mets' Frankie Montas 'not happy' about bullpen move

Frankie Montas wasn’t happy with the Mets’ decision to remove him from the starting rotation, but it’s not going to negatively affect him when his name is called out of the bullpen, either.

Speaking for the first time since the announcement was made that top prospect Nolan McLean would be taking his spot in the rotation, Montas expressed his feelings regarding the change.

“I was not happy. I consider myself a starting pitcher. But in the meantime, whatever they need me to do to help, I’m willing to do it,” the 32-year-old veteran right-hander, who owns an ugly 6.38 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in eight appearances (seven starts) as a Met, told The Post. “At the end of the day, even if it’s in the bullpen or I’m starting the game, you still have to get people out. Right now, they think that’s the best option [for me].”

“I’ve been a starter for quite a time in this league, and I consider myself a good starter. Now, that doesn’t mean they don’t think I’m a good starter. It’s just right now, [the bullpen] is a better option for me to help right now. It’s not a secret I wasn’t pitching my best.”
