Megyn Kelly slammed a Washington Post columnist as a “rabid antisemite” after the opinion writer liked a tweet that shrugged off Hamas’ horrifying displays of violence in its bid to replace Israel with an Islamic state.
The SiriusXM host on Tuesday tweeted a screenshot showing Karen Attiah — who pens a weekly newsletter for WaPo on international affairs, culture and human rights — was among the 101,000-plus people who “liked” a controversial post by Najma Sharif.
The post, which Sharif shared with her 42,200 followers, appeared to call Hamas’ bloodthirsty display of violence in Israel — that has resulted in at least 1,200 Israeli deaths as of Wednesday — as simply an end to justify the means.
“What did y’all think decolonization meant? vibes? papers? essays? losers,” wrote Sharif, a freelance journalist who’s written for the likes of Teen Vogue and InStyle, including cover stories for Dazed and Paper Magazine.
In response, Kelly penned a fiery post: “It’s truly shocking to see people like @KarenAttiah of @washingtonpost – who regularly posts pics of her cat & her workouts- reveal themselves as rabid antisemites who think decapitating Israeli babies is A-ok in the name of ‘decolonization’ & that you are a ‘loser’ if you disagree.”
For Hamas, the terrorist organization behind the attacks, that goal is the erasure of the Jewish state and the creation of an Islamic state in its place.
As Sharit suggested, “vibes” and “essays” wouldn’t be able to accomplish this, and those who thought otherwise — at least according to Sharit — are “losers.”
Both Attiah, who has more than 233,700 followers, and Sharit have since “protected” their X accounts, which prevents users from seeing their posts unless approved by the respective account holder.
The Post has sought comment from Attiah and Sharit through her agent Connor Goldsmith at Fuse Literary.
Kelly later revealed that Fuse Literary blocked her on X, formerly Twitter.
The 52-year-old “Megyn Kelly Show” podcast host blasted the agency for being “totally find backing a writer (@overdramatique [Sharit’s account]) who celebrates the murder of innocent women & children & seniors in the streets.”
“Apparently loves seeing the nude corpse of 20-yr-old women mutilated in front of us. Great job @FuseLiterary!” Kelly added.
Many onlookers called out Sharit for supporting war crimes, and shared that Attiah’s decision to like the post slandered WaPo’s credibility.
“My opinion of the Washington post was low, but damn,” one user said.
“They do give any activist a journalism license here is the problem,” another added of the outlet.
“It just makes me so sad to see people then say it’s okay for the oppressed to commit war crimes. It’s horrible on both sides. And seeing the moral downslide bc of what the powers did is so crushing to me,” yet another tweeted.
The reason given by Hamas for launching the action was “in defense of the Aqsa Mosque,” an important Muslim holy site in Jerusalem, which it claims Israel had allowed Jewish groups to “desecrate” praying at the site.
It also cited the longstanding Israeli blockade of the Gaza strip, which has been ongoing since 2007, and Israeli violence against Palestinians as reasons for the terror attack.
Since Saturday, Hamas has inflicted horrific displays of violence on Israeli civilians, including when the group descended on the Tribe of Nova music festival near Gaza, firing at partygoers’ legs so they couldn’t evade being kidnapped and throwing grenades at others.
Other footage that has emerged in recent days shows an Israeli mother and her two small children, aged three and nine months, being abducted by Hamas.
President Biden announced on Tuesday that at least 14 US citizens have been confirmed dead from Hamas’ weekend rampage, and the terrorist group is holding 11 Americans hostage.
During his remarks from the White House, Biden did not address calls from Republican politicians to halt the release of $6 billion in unfrozen assets to Iran, which reportedly helped Hamas plot the attacks and gave the go-ahead for the assault last week.
