A British businessman living in Hong Kong has been charged with murder after his housekeeper was found dead at the bottom of a waterfall.

The 34-year-old unnamed man and his wife were both arrested at West Kowloon train station on Tuesday in connection with the crime.

According to police, the suspect went to Waterfall Bay Park in Pok Fu Lam with the victim at around 11pm on Sunday, but around 40 minutes later, the Brit was seen rushing into a taxi alone.

The housekeeper, a 25-year-old woman from Indonesia, was discovered  floating in the water at the bottom of the waterfall at around 7am on Monday morning.

It is believed she drowned after sustaining severe head injuries, the South China Morning Post reported, and preliminary examinations also revealed minor wounds to her limbs.

Officers will now determine whether the victim was intoxicated.

The man’s 36-year-old wife, said to be a Hong Kong local, was arrested on suspicion of assisting the suspect, but was later released on bail.

Police have confirmed that the man will appear at Eastern Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, while his wife will have to report back to police late next month.

A British banker is currently serving a life sentence in Hong Kong after he was found guilty of the ‘sadistic’ murder of two Indonesian women, Sumarti Ningsih and Seneng Mujiasih, at his luxury flat ten years ago.

Surrey-born Rurik Jutting was convicted in 2016 at a trial that featured horrific video evidence of rape and torture.

One clip showed the moment one of his victims begged for her life as she was forced to lick a toilet bow before Jutting savagely slit her throat.

Another horrifying video should Jutting saying to his victim Sumarti: ‘How much do you love me. If you say yes, I will hit you once. If you say no I will hit you twice. If you scream, I will punch you’.

He also made a video showing off his ‘torture kit’ that included a blowtorch and sex toy wrapped in sandpaper, which he intended to use on his next victim.
