A Majorcan taxi driver has been accused of trying to rape his British fare before dumping her by the side of the road with torn clothing.
The traumatised holidaymaker rang her parents and asked them to alert the police before being abandoned ‘semi-naked’ in an empty car park by the cabbie between midnight and 1am on September 15.
Local police employed by Andratx Town Hall found the British woman crying after receiving the early-hours alert and took her to Son Espases Hospital in the Majorcan capital Palma for a medical examination.
Both her dress and underwear were ripped when officers reached the car park in the resort village of Camp de Mar on Majorca’s southwest coast.
Detectives from another police force, the Civil Guard, identified the taxi driver who picked her up from a restaurant where she had been eating with her parents before staying alone for after-dinner drinks by viewing CCTV footage from the nearby area of Port d’Andratx where she was picked up.

He was initially interviewed as a witness before being told he was being placed under investigation after giving a version of events a source close to the ongoing probe said ‘didn’t add up.’
He has not yet been formally arrested but is now facing a court summons, with well-placed sources confirming he was fired from his job after detectives informed council officials responsible for taxi licensing in the area.
The cabbie is understood to have claimed the British holidaymaker was drunk and climbed into the front seat of his vehicle from the back seat before beginning to flirt with him as he was driving her back to a beach resort where she was staying around 10 minutes from her pick-up point.
He claimed he ended up diverting and stopping at a car park en route but left when he saw she was ringing her parents after telling him she didn’t want sex following his alleged attempts to ‘force her’.

Last week a man was arrested and two more were placed under investigation after a British teenager claimed she was raped and sexually assaulted in separate incidents by a holidaymaker and two local workers who included a British man.
The suspect held was a 26-year-old UK-based Romanian tourist who was staying at the same hotel on the island as the woman.
The 19-year-old whose complaint sparked the detention told cops she had been sexually assaulted after drinks in a pub in Arenal d’en Castell, Menorca’s fourth largest resort on the eastern side of the island where most of its attractions are located.
She is said to have arrived back at her hotel where she was staying with her mum ‘barefoot and in her underwear’.
The teenager also claimed she had been abused by two other men after the initial incident in bushes between the pub and her holiday accommodation who she said had taken advantage of the state she was in.
A court investigation is ongoing.
